Lamborghini CEO Stephen Winkleman has hinted that the Italian car maker will be testing a new hybrid drive system and could have cars such as the Gallardo in production by 2015.
Winkleman made this statement in an interview with a German Auto trade paper and the speculation is that this change of direction is a response to big rival Ferrari’s announcement that they will release a hybrid in the same year,
It is thought that the Lamborghini hybrid will utilize an electric motor at low speeds, for example in city traffic, but revert to the usual gas engine at higher speeds. This is a similar system to many current hybrid autos.
